Groundhog Day, a thought from a Cambridge Chiropractor
If your life were distilled down to one day of existence, what would it look like? Have you ever laid in bed dreaming of the excitement that lies ahead? Or do you have a recent memory of wishing away the week so that the stress or project were just over and done with?
What if we all lived each day as though it turned out like Bill Murray’s Groundhog Day? How would you shape it? What would you be most excited about as you lay in bed awaiting your destiny on repeat?
I try to live each day with the thought that ‘if this were my last day, or I had to continually repeat this day, it would be amazing.’ Some key points that I choose to have in each of my days are as follows.
Fun
Let’s try to make each day a bit more fun. Creating fun with your family, poking fun at your friends. Reading or watching something that makes you giggle. Trying to be the first to crack a witty remark to lighten the mood.
Movement
Like the pet dog or cat, the first thing I always try to incorporate is some stretching or yoga. But it doesn’t end there. Sweat by running. Or walking. Or whatever makes you feel alive. Bringing your body to the point of its limitation is one of the most gratifying and humanizing feelings one can create. Why not do it each day?
Expression
Whether through dance or creative writing, painting or sculpting. Acting, photographing, or making a movie, we all have the ability to create something that is uniquely us each and every day. In the world of AI and ChatGPT, I think that it has never been more important to remind ourselves what makes a society rich is the contributions of the members. We have so much to offer, and it takes only a few minutes of each day.
Helping others
This does not need to be chiropractic or massage therapy. But simple daily duties such as calling the friend in need, helping the neighbour with his lawn or snow removal, providing lessons as a coach to your local hockey team. One of the most joyous things that we can do for free is to give ourselves for the benefit of others. Getting away from our egocentric existence is critical to experiencing life at a higher vibration.
Learning
The ongoing pursuit of wisdom should never be abandoned. What if we stopped chasing laws of physics at the time of Newton’s discovery of gravity? Would we have ever known Einstein or Hawking or Musk? We need to keep reading, keep exploring. Keep doing crossword puzzles and Sudoku. Enrol in a class because it piques your interest. Watch a documentary instead of Instagram. Our brains need to be exercised dare they hibernate like the groundhog.
I challenge you on this pivotal day of the year to express each day as if it were a summation of who you are. When your life is distilled down after your last day and you sit with your Maker and review, will you be pleased with your body of work? I sure hope to think that I will.
