Should you see a chiropractor for lower back pain?

Chiropractic is a safe and effective form of care for lower back pain.  What we do depends largely on your individual case.  We comb through your personal health history to identify any factors from your past which may be contributing to your lower back pain today.  We then use technology to help us navigate through the next part of the exam.  A combination of thermal spinal scanning as well as radiologic imaging allows us to “see inside” to further understand what is causing the pain in your lower back.  The final part of our evaluation is a hands-on exam which includes many unique tests and systems of analysis which allow us to determine the state of your nervous system (brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves).  Upon completion of all of these things, we are then ready to move forward with dealing with your lower back pain

Chiropractor Approach to Back Pain

How does this approach differ from what you may have received with your medical doctor?  This is a very important question to ask yourself.  This is also the most fundamental feedback we receive from patients regarding how thorough we are in comparison.  If your doctor is not asking you about your history, your work postures, your diet and your stress, then they are missing vast chunks of vital information that may be complicating your lower back pain.

Once we’ve gathered all of this knowledge, we review it with you.  We describe exactly what the diagnosis is, we then predict your prognosis (i.e. how well will you do with chiropractic care), and outline your treatment plan (e.g. how long will it take, how many chiropractic adjustments, should you use ice/heat, should you stretch or exercise).

Finally, the big moment.  We use various techniques to correct spinal dysfunction, all of which are extremely safe, reliable and well studied.  We have used these techniques for 18 years in practice and have built a reputation of the place to go if you suffer from lower back pain.  We see injuries of all types, ranging from severe post-trauma, to repetitive strain, disc injury and sciatica.

I guess the answer then is….YES!  You should most definitely see a chiropractor if you have lower back pain.
